Chips, Fries, Käseflips,Tortilla-Chips- Whatever you choose to grab at snack time, each has its pros and cons. The obvious benefit is that they're delicious, period. However, you are onesalty snack, meaning grab some of those potato chips you lovea lotSalt in every little crunchy bite.

"Only fromPotato, salt and oil, french fries are often an "empty calorie" food, the nutritionist saysLauren Manaker, MS, RDN, LD, who also noted that fries overall don't "offer much in the nutrition department." A french fry is, for the most part, simply potatoes, salt and oil, and while a short list of ingredients is usually what someone on a healthy diet wants, that doesn't mean it has to be the casehealthy.

That being said, as with almost any food, moderation is key. Eating french fries as a snack when you really want them can make them even more enjoyable and satisfy your hunger afterwards.

Although our ranking of chips stands out from worst to bestthe biggest brandsand as more options become available, Manaker advises people to think beyond the potato.

“Choosing a chip that has some protein or fiber (or both!) in it will add some extra stamina to your snack. This may mean choosing a chip made from something other than your classic potato or corn,” she says. She also cautions against some labels, such as "natural," and suggests grocery shoppers read each label to independently assess whether or not it's the right snack for you.

This is a winner. Tostito's lightly salted fried corn is made with just three ingredients and is incredibly low in sodium, along with low in fat or saturated fat. While there are some carbs and calories (due to the oil and corn, of course), it's still a better choice than anything else on this list.
